Influence of the parameters of the temporary immersion bioreactor on the development of Guarianthe skinneri plantlets

Immersion frequency, Immersion time, Micropropagation, Multiplication rateAbstract
In this work we evaluated the effect of three frequencies (8,12 and 24 h) and three times of immersion (7, 14 and 21 min) in a temporary immersion bioreactor (BIT®) on the plantlet morphology of Guarianthe skinneri and was compared to conventional system (semi-solid medium). Ten plantlets of 4 to 6 cm height, with two leaves and without roots by treatment were used. Higher plantlet height was obtained with the frequency and time of immersion of 24 h and 21 min, respectively. More shoots were formed with the frequency and immersion time of 12 h and 21 min, respectively, and greater cuticle thickness was obtained with the frequency and immersion time of 8 h 14 min, respectively. The BIT® was the best micropropagation system for the development of G. skinneri plantlets with higher height, multiplication rate and cuticle formation compared with a semi-solid system.
