Abstract
This issue of Anales de Medicina Universitaria is published with a profound sense of respect following the passing of Dr. Luis Ernesto Hernández Gamboa (1956–2025), founding Editor-in-Chief of this journal. His academic vision, his commitment to editorial quality, and his dedication to the humanistic training of health professionals decisively shaped the course of this project. This edition is dedicated to his memory, in recognition of his intellectual and ethical legacy, which will continue to inspire the scientific endeavors of our community.
The works included in this volume reflect the diversity of clinical and public health topics present in our environment. The Letter to the Editor underscores the importance of strengthening medical education through a humanistic perspective that integrates communicative and ethical competencies into clinical practice, emphasizing the formative value of the theory of medical-surgical persuasion.
The study on periodontal conditions in adults reveals a high frequency of periodontal disease and a broad need for treatment, highlighting the urgency of reinforcing preventive and educational actions in oral health.
Within the obstetric field, the review of oligohydramnios cases managed at a referral hospital provides relevant information for adequately assessing this diagnosis and avoiding unnecessary interventions, thereby promoting prudent and context-sensitive clinical management. Finally, the investigation on overweight and obesity in the Indigenous population of Oxchuc documents a growing pattern of metabolic risk that reflects the epidemiological transition occurring in Indigenous communities, underscoring the need for culturally appropriate strategies to address these disparities.
This collection of contributions reaffirms the journal’s commitment to disseminating scientific knowledge that is useful, pertinent, and oriented toward improving clinical practice and public health in the region.
Respectfully,
“FOR THE CONSCIENCE OF THE NEED TO SERVE”
